X-Games Social Wall

Britelite was asked to produce a social video wall experience for Instagram at the X Games Austin, Texas. We therefore developed a 32 foot video wall array that aggregated live photo and video content from Instagram’s API. Additionally, Instagram content was output through our visualizer and into a large Jumbotron and live broadcast feed.

MY ROLE

For this project, I developed a Touchdesigner based video wall playback system that would download approved Instagram posts from our moderation/approval system, and display them in the content grid on the 24-screen video wall array at full resolution. I also created a single-screen version of the social wall to be displayed on the jumbo-tron screens throughout the event space.

THE RESULT

For this event, we developed a custom social media scraping and moderation tool that aggregated X Games content from fans and athletes. We worked with ESPN to capture and aggregate social content from all public users at the event. To meet the demands of the multi-channel event, we created a custom video management system that routed content seamlessly to multiple locations including, the 24 screen video wall, Jumbotron, and live Broadcast feed. Throughout the event, our social wall became a trending backdrop for interviews and television segments.
