I had the pleasure to work with artist Heather Day and SPM Design on “an innovative, first-of-its-kind public art installation in Beverly Hills, combining multi-surface and digital intervention.“
My main role in this project was to create a dynamic playback system for the 24-screen video wall which would serve as the top portion of the 3-floor art mural spanning the side of the newly constructed building.
This playback system displayed animated videos of brushstrokes and colors created by the artist in the same theme as the mural. The software was developed using Touchdesigner and designed to play different videos for daytime and nighttime, and would automatically adjust to the changing day/night cycles throughout the year.
I provided a pre-provisioned Intel NUC computer to SPM Design (with auto-start scripts and system failsafe’s designed for an always-on low-maintenance life) to run the software and provided the video feed for the video wall processor to display.
My other role in this project was to create an Instagram AR filter using Spark AR that could be used to transpose the artists work by allowing the user to paint their own brushstrokes into the environment. I went through several iterations and rounds of testing with the artist to land on something that would be both possible in the software, as well as in line with the artistic vision of the piece.
