For their latest property, Alexandria Real Estate Group asked Britelite to create the immersive showroom that features a groundbreaking San Francisco development initiative.
For this project, Alexandria was looking for a fully integrated experience that would allow their brokers and agents to demonstrate the myriad of amazing options available to them in their new development. To bring this concept to life, Britelite leveraged large scale projection, 3D printed models, video mapping, integrated LED panels and a mobile application; all of which were seamlessly integrated through a custom backend system to create a future-forward real estate experience.
MY ROLE
I was responsible for creating the multi-part Touchdesigner based playback system that was controlled by a custom web app running on a tablet. This was used by the client to highlight and preview various amenities and features of the building to prospective tenants and city officials.
This system would play synchronized videos on the projection wall and 4-point projection mapping system for physical model of the building, as well as the underlying LED screen for displaying content upward from beneath the physical model itself.
One of the key features of this system was the ability to roll the model away into the side of the room, allowing for the space to be cleared out for other event purposes. This presented us with a challenge as the table would never be put back exactly in the same spot when re-deployed, which would cause the projection mapping to go out of alignment.
The solution to this was to create a camera-free auto mapping system that utilized embedded fiber-optic light detectors integrated into specific points in the physical model. Using these light detectors, we were able to run a ‘grey code structured light‘ animation from each projector. This would export the x/y positions in 2d space of each detection point from each projector perspective, which was then used to align the 3d model in virtual space to the exact position/size/orientation needed for the animations to line up with the model from all 4 surrounding projector perspectives.
